Import and export logistics specialist, Wallace International, has added yet another prime mover to its fleet. The Kenworth K200 was delivered this week and follows the purchase of a new Mack Granite last December.
The K200 is the first cab-over prime mover for the company, joining a fleet of existing conventional Kenworth, Western Star and Mack units already wearing the distinctive Wallace International livery.
The additional truck was required as work has continued to increase for Wallace International’s Sydney operation – especially for the pick-up of empty shipping containers from clients and their return to the empty container parks.
Although its initial application was being connected to one of the company’s tautliner trailers carrying palletised goods, the K200 is also intended to be engaged in side-loader work as well as B-double dutie, both local and long distance.
Powered by a 600 hp Cummins engine, at first glance the Kenworth may seem over-specified for the majority of work that it is intended to perform, but Wallace International Transport Manager Gary Perry pointed out to CRTNews that the company’s Sydney-based trucks occasionally travel intrastate as far as Broken Hill and are frequently travelling interstate especially to and from the company’s Brisbane operation.
“The big bunk will be good for when our drivers travel to places like Broken Hill or Melbourne,” Gary said. “Having plenty of power also means that there is less stress on the drivers.”
As with the other prime movers in the Wallace fleet, the Kenworth has been treated to a host of extra chrome and polished metal that make the trucks stand out.
